Everything You Need to Know About the Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage

Camino de Santiago in Spain

The Camino de Santiago, also known as "The Way," is more than just a walk—it’s an adventure, a spiritual journey, and a chance to explore the rich beauty and culture of Spain. This iconic pilgrimage consists of a network of routes leading to the burial site of St. James in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, located in northwest Spain.

While the Camino has deep religious roots, it attracts people from all backgrounds and beliefs today. Whether you’re seeking spiritual growth, adventure, or a unique vacation, the Camino de Santiago offers an experience unlike any other.

Among the various routes, the Camino Francés is the most popular. Starting in Saint-Jean, France, it spans approximately 500 miles across Spain. However, shorter routes like the Camino Portugués or the Camino Inglés are perfect for those with limited time or seeking a less demanding journey.

If you’re planning to walk the Camino in 2025, consider joining one of our guided groups. We’ll be leading two trips starting from Saint-Jean, France in May and June, along with a third trip beginning in León, Spain, at the end of May.

Life on the Camino: What to Expect

Life on the Camino is a blend of shared experiences, personal growth, and stunning scenery. Each day on the Camino is unique, and your journey will be shaped by your pace and preferences.

Typically, we start early in the morning to enjoy cooler temperatures, grabbing a simple breakfast before heading out. Along the trail, you can walk at your own pace, rest when needed, capture photos, and savor the moment with your fellow pilgrims. In the evening, we will gather in a predetermined town or city to check into our lodging, enjoy a delicious local dinner, and reflect on the day’s walk.

Why the Camino de Santiago is Worth It

The Camino de Santiago isn’t just about reaching your destination, it’s about the journey. Along the way, you’ll walk through the beautiful Spanish countryside, vibrant cities, and charming villages. Every step brings you closer to a sense of fulfillment, whether it’s through connecting with others or reconnecting with yourself.

Having spent over 70 days walking various Camino routes and covering more than 1,000 miles, I’ve found each journey to be transformative. People often start the Camino uncertain of what they’re searching for, but many discover clarity, joy, and a renewed sense of purpose by the time they reach the end of their journey.

Whether you’re looking for adventure, spiritual renewal, or a meaningful break from your daily routine, the Camino de Santiago offers all of this and more!
